Linking PAN and Aadhaar is mandatory for all PAN holders, who do not come under the exempt category as per Notification No. 37/2017, dated 11th May 2017. Last Date 30/06/2023.
What happens if you miss linking your PAN with your Aadhaar by June 3oth, 2023?

Consequences of not linking your PAN with Aadhaar

  1. Your PAN will become inoperative.
  2. Filing ITRs will not be possible.
  3. Pending Returns will not be processed.
  4. Pending Refunds cannot be issued.
  5. Pending proceedings cannot be completed in the case of a defective Return.
  6. Tax will be deducted at a higher rate.

How to link your PAN with Aadhaar

  1. Visit https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal
  2. Under the ‘Quick Links’ section, click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option
  3. Next, enter your Aadhaar number and PAN, and pay the late fee of Rs. 1000/- through the ‘E-Pay Tax functionality’ after following the on-screen instructions
  4. Once payment is complete, visit the ‘Link Aadhaar’ section again and enter your name, mobile number, Aadhaar number, and PAN
  5. Verify the information by selecting the ‘I agree to validate my Aadhaar Details’ option and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’option
  6. Enter the OTP received on your mobile number and click on ‘Validate’ to complete the linking process

Who needs to link Aadhaar and PAN?

Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act provides that every individual who has been allotted a permanent account number (PAN) as of the 1st day of July 2017, and who is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar number, shall intimate his Aadhaar number in the prescribed form and manner. In other words, such persons have to mandatorily link their Aadhaar and PAN before the prescribed date (Presently, 31.03.2022 without fee payment and 30.06.2023 with prescribed fee payment).
